accessibility

Although The Arrival was built in approximately 1870 and naturally does not meet any modern accessibility standards, we took every effort throughout our renovation to make this space as accessible as possible. We have done our best to work through the expected limitations of a historic property to create a ground floor suite that better serves guests with mobility issues.

These are The Arrival’s accessibility limitations:

  • We have one dedicated handicapped parking space located closest to the front entrance of the house. It is hardscaped on the driver’s side with a brick pathway that runs to the front porch. The remainder of the parking area is gravel.

  • There is one step up to the front porch, and a second step at the threshold of the front doors.

  • The brick pathway continues around to the rear side of the house to the patio, half of which is hardscaped with bluestone flagstones. The remainder of the patio and kitchen garden are gravel.

  • Many of the floor thresholds are higher than the floors.

  • The second floor is only accessible via the main staircase, which has 20 steps.

  • Our ground floor suite, the Athenaeum, is equipped with a step, free, wheel-in shower and grab bars. It has a two inch threshold at its entrance.

  • Our second floor suites have step-free showers.
