we’re pet + people friendly

Meet your four-legged hosts, Teddy & Brady. They love to meet new people and are here to greet you and your canine companion.

pup policies

The following policy does not apply to service animals. Please check our accessibility page for more details.

The Athenaeum is our dog-friendly room. Our pet fee is $30/day, per dog, and we have a two dog maximum. Please be sure to let us know when you make your reservation that you’ll be bringing your pup before you arrive!

  • While we do not have age, weight, or breed restrictions, we do expect that your dog is housebroken and well-socialized with people, dogs, and cats.

  • Your pet must be up to date on all vaccines. We may request vaccination records for rabies and bordetella.

  • Dogs cannot be left unattended if you leave the property. Exceptions may be made if your dog can demonstrate that it will not bark, whine, or scratch at doors if left alone. We can also recommend local doggy daycares that will ensure your dog gets plenty of attention and exercise while you’re out.

  • Owners assume all responsibility for and must maintain control of their pets while on the property.

  • Dogs should be well-groomed before your visit and treated for fleas and ticks.

  • We have a designated doggy relief area on our property with poop bags and a trash receptacle. Please make sure to pick up after them!

  • We provide complimentary water and food bowls and all you-can-eat treats during your stay, as well as extra beach towels as necessary.

Dog friendly beaches

Most beaches on the Cape allow dogs from September to May. If you’re visiting us in the summer there are still a few places to enjoy sun and sand with your dog!

  • In the summer, pets are allowed on the Cape Cod National Seashore except on lifeguard-protected beaches. There are some exceptions throughout the year to protect nesting bird populations.

  • Jackknife Beach on Chatham’s Pleasant Bay is one of the few beaches on Cape that allows dogs during the summer season. They are allowed before 9am and after 6pm every day.

  • While the beach itself isn’t accessible to dogs on season, dogs and their owners are allowed to walk the parking lot (which is quite long and runs parallel to the beach) between 7:30am-9am and from 4:30pm to dusk.

local walkies

Harwich is home to some of the best places on the Cape to enjoy the outdoors with your dog. Here are some of our favorites, one of which is right outside our front door! Please be respectful of our public land and pick up after your pet.

  • Just across the road from The Arrival up North Street is Bell’s Neck Conservation Trust land. Enjoy 259 acres of trails that follow the Herring River as it gives way to saltmarsh, woodlands, and cranberry bogs. Following the trail to the west leads you to the Herring Run, where herring return to spawn every spring.

  • The Cape Cod Rail Trail is easily accessible from Bell’s Neck. From the Herring Run in Bell’s Neck, a trail around the West Reservoir leads to the Rail Trail, which runs for 25 miles through six Cape Cod towns.

  • We don’t think we’re exaggerating when we say this is the best dog park we’ve ever visited. Thompson’s Field is 57 acres of off-leash heaven loved by locals and visitors alike. There are no fences, so make sure your dog has good recall.

Pup + Adventures

The Cape offers plenty of options for getting you and your best friend out on the water and off to more adventures. Just make sure to pack some Meclizine in case of doggy motion sickness!

  • Just six minutes east down Route 28 is Saquatucket Harbor, where the Freedom Cruise Line offers dog-friendly ferry travel to and from Nantucket. Perfect for a day trip!

  • Whale watching is a quintessential Cape Cod activity, and Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch out of Provincetown happily allows well behaved dogs on their tours.
